Entre les temps - group photo

I teach classes at the Salwa Dance Academy, which offers weekly Oriental dance classes in Brussels, as well as workshops and private lessons both live and online.

More than just learning steps, my classes will help you feel at home in your body, gain confidence, and reconnect with your artistic side. Through music and movement, I’ll guide you in exploring the beauty of this rich cultural dance, developing a deep connection with rhythm and expression.

FAQ

I’ve never danced and I have no sense of rhythm. Can I still join?
OF COURSE! Our beginner classes are designed to help you learn the basics. You can join them any time and learn at your own speed.
Can I sign up during the trimester / if I missed the first class(es)?
Yes, you can sign up at any moment during the schoolyear, except for the last few weeks before the end-of-year show. If you sign up after the trimester has begun, you’ll be only able to recover classes you missed after your signup (payment) date, not the ones before.
What if I miss a class?
If you miss a class, you can recover it in another one during the period your pass is valid for (ie. during the trimester if you have a trimester pass, during the year if you have a yearly pass). Please consult your teacher for the exact details. The Academy only issues refunds in specific cases (see our Terms&Conditions); missed classes are only refunded in case of illness or injury (for the period covered by a doctor’s note) or in case of a decease in the immediate family.
What level should I sign up to?
Our beginner and open level classes are open to everyone, at any level. Intermediate courses are open to dancers with at least one year of experience; advanced classes to dancers with 3+ years of experience. If you dance in your community / at home, or have significant experience in other dance forms, it is still recommended that you take the beginner class on itself or parallel to a more advanced course. Please talk to the teacher to determine if you can attend more advanced courses.
What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable sportswear: leggings or yoga trousers, a comfy (preferably tight) top, clean socks or jazz shoes (you may also dance barefoot), and a scarf for your hips. In Winter, you may want to bring an extra layer. Please do not wear coin belts.

Are there men in your courses?
At the moment, due to popular demand, all our classes are women (or girls) only; since they’re held in public centres, there might be men in the common areas of the building. If you’re a man or masculine-presenting person interested in taking a course, please contact us directly so we can find a solution for you.
Is there an age limit?
Our courses are open to girls 14 and over and women of any age. Girls between 10 and 14 can attend if they sign up together with a trusted adult (mother, sister, aunt etc). There isn’t any upper age limit to learn to dance: raqs sharqi / belly dance is a low-impact activity, and we respect any physical limitations youmight have, age-related or otherwise. If you have an illness or injury or other significant physical limitation, please consult your doctor before signing up to class.
