In this class, you’ll learn the basic movements of belly dance / raqs sharqi, along with exercises to improve your posture and muscle control, so that you gain confidence by moving your body.

You’ll also learn to embody Egyptian/Arabic music, work on choreographic sequences – with a performance opportunity at the end of the year! – and practice improvisation in a social dance setting, so you can be the star of the party!

Beyond practicing and developping the moves you learnt as a beginner, you’ll learn to handle props such as the veil and the cane, and learn about different styles of staged raqs sharqi / belly dance,traditional and folkloric dances. We’ll also dive deeper into the music, work on more nuanced choreography, and practice improvisation both as social dance and for the stage.​

In this class, you’ll deep-dive into refining your technique and musicality. You’ll learn to handle different props (finger cymbals, melaya leff etc.), recognise different musical styles and adapt your dance accordingly.

We’ll put a special emphasis on working the stage both in group and as soloists, improving your stage presence and expressive capacity so you can grow into a confident artist who owns the stage.

You’ll need at least 3 of experience to attend this class.
